Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Force.
Rei means present everywhere. Ki (Chi in Chinese) is the lifeforce, the non-physical energy that gives life to all living
things and which can be used for the purpose of healing.
When lifeforce is low as when we are tired or
stressed there is a greater susceptibility to illness. When lifeforce is high we are much more resistant to illness
and disease. The patient's mind and body use the energy where
it is most needed. The means to channel this energy into an individual
was discovered by Dr Usui in the late 19th century. The knowledge required to channel energy has been passed
down through master/teachers to this day.
Treatments can be used for emotional and psychic healing as well as physical
although many people simply use a treatment as a way to achieve deep relaxation and a sense of well-being. People find
that after a series of Reiki treatments they are able to cope more fully. They feel energised and much more able to
shake off upsets and disappointments. They find themselves living a happier and healthier life.
